James Luccock
Physiotherapist/Acupuncturist/Pilates instructor

B.Sc. Sport and Exercise Science; B.Sc. Physiotherapy (1st class Hons) University of Northumbria; MCSPSM, HCPC registered

James first achieved a degree in Sport and Exercise Science and then went on to achieve a 1st class honours degree in Physiotherapy from Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne.

He has experience in both the private sector and the NHS, and began his professional career at Sunderland Royal Hospital, carrying out rotations in the musculo-skeletal outpatients, hand rehabilitation and cardio-respiratory medicine departments.

James began to specialise in musculo-skeletal physiotherapy in the occupational health department at Sunderland Royal Hospital where he was responsible for a varied clinical caseload that included treating hospital staff members and carrying out moving and handling training and conducting workplace assessments.

James has gained additional skills and qualifications in sports massage, trigger point release, acupuncture/dry needling, taping and manipulation – and this understanding of a wide range of techniques means he can tailor treatments and rehabilitation programmes based on each patient’s individual needs. He is in the process of completing his Pilates instructor qualifications and will be taking many of our Pilates classes in the near future.

When treating, James uses a variety of manual therapy treatments including manipulation, mobilisation, acupuncture, dry needling, massage and muscle release and taping. Combining these techniques with a detailed knowledge of exercises that help develop core strength, flexibility and control, James is able to deliver excellent results for all his patients.

Away from work, James is an established semi-professional footballer, plying his trade in the Northern league – and is proud to hold an FA Vase winner’s medal, collected at Wembley Stadium last year.

As a sportsman himself – and as someone who has spent a fair amount of time on various treatment tables – he knows from first hand experience how important first-class physiotherapy assessment and treatment can be.

Born and brought up in Gosforth, James is excited to have joined our team at Gosforth Physio and Wellness and has one aim in mind: to provide physiotherapy treatments to the highest professional standards.
