Elbow pain can make even simple tasks, such as lifting, gripping, typing, driving or exercising, uncomfortable or impossible. Whether your symptoms have come on suddenly or developed gradually over time, persistent elbow pain can limit work, sport, hobbies, and day-to-day life.
Our expert physiotherapists at Gosforth Physio & Wellness specialise in the accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of all types of elbow pain. Through hands-on therapy, exercise rehabilitation and evidence-based techniques, we help you recover quickly and prevent symptoms from coming back.
Elbow Pain Physiotherapy
Our physiotherapists use a combination of manual therapy, mobilisation, acupuncture, dry needling, taping, and strengthening exercises to reduce pain, settle inflammation, and restore normal function.
We focus on finding the root cause of your symptoms, rather than keeping you coming back for unnecessary appointments. Once we’ve completed a full assessment and explained your diagnosis, we’ll discuss all appropriate treatment options with you and begin your physiotherapy treatment in the very first session.
Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to support a faster recovery and reduce the risk of long-term problems.
Common Types of Elbow Pain
Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylalgia)
Despite the name, most people who suffer from tennis elbow don’t play tennis. It’s caused by irritation or overload of the forearm tendons, often from repetitive gripping, lifting, keyboard work or DIY activities. Pain is typically felt on the outside of the elbow and can radiate down the forearm.
Golfers Elbow (Medial Epicondylalgia)
This condition affects the tendons on the inside of the elbow and is often triggered by repetitive wrist or forearm movements. Symptoms may include pain when gripping, lifting or twisting objects.
Elbow Sprain or Overuse Injuries
Sudden force, heavy lifting or incorrect technique can strain the soft tissues around the elbow, causing swelling, stiffness and discomfort.
Nerve Irritation
The nerves that pass through the elbow can become compressed or irritated, leading to sharp pain, tingling or weakness in the forearm and hand.
Arthritis
Degeneration within the elbow joint can lead to pain, stiffness and limited movement, particularly in older adults or those with a history of injury.
